As a native of South Florida, Nelson started his competitive playing career at the age of 11 with the Vineland Soccer Club where his father was a coach. Nelson later also played for the Pembroke Pines Soccer Club where is was coached amongst others by soccer legend Teofilo “El Nene” Cubillas. Nelson represented his teams not just in Florida competitions but also in nationwide tournaments and international trips (Argentina). His achievements earned him spots on the South Florida Select Program, a 4 year starter position at American High and later on an athletic scholarship to Barry University.
Besides of his numerous licenses and certificates including the USSF B License, Nelson also holds a Bachelor Degree in Criminology and Psychology as well as a Masters Degree in Social Work.
His coaching career has been influenced and developed by great coaches such as Megaloudis, Michia, Eketebi and Rongen just to name a few. Although he has lead his teams to countless victories and trophies, he firmly believes in youth soccer development in the form of learning and loving the game in the correct way above winning.
“Champions aren’t made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them. A desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.” Muhamed Ali
